Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of machines or computer programs/software, as opposed to the intelligence of humans or animals. It is also the field of study in computer science that develops and studies intelligent machines.

John McCarthy in his 2004 paper offered interesting definition which states, "It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable."

There are many subsets of Artificial Intelligence as a field of study ,including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning.

Following is the intrinsic outline of thought process of approach required during the creation of Artificial Intelligent programs -

Human approach:

  • Systems that think like humans
  • Systems that act like humans

Ideal approach:

  • Systems that think rationally
  • Systems that act rationally
